With threats all around and an ill equipped army, Saul decides to act contrary to God’s instruction to him through Samuel and as a result is warned that his throne will be removed! We too can learn from the pitfalls of Saul and see God’s goodness despite his failure.

All that God promised Eli comes to pass in a single day, the Lord brings swift judgement upon the house of Eli and even the ark of God is taken by the Philistines! But, in the midst of dark times for God’s people, we see that God is still working His plan of redemption and showing Himself high above all the gods of the nations.

God’s Word Against eli

In this weeks sermon we see God’s response to the sins of Eli and his house. God is perfect in holiness and justice and though He is also patient and long-suffering, there comes a point when God desires to execute his justice upon unrepentant sinners. And yet, even in the midst of this sobering word against Eli, God also hold forth a promise of a coming priest who is faithful and carries out God’s will perfectly!
